Made solely out of 2×4 (50 x 100mm) and 1×6 (25 x 150mm) rough lumber.

This is version number four of my Jack & Jill / Companion type bench seats and is probably the easiest to build, and less expensive to make.
They are a very practical and comfortable bench with space for your snack plate and drinks.
The lumber used for this project is 2×4 (50 x 100mm) and 1×6 (25 x 150mm) stock.
The lumber is (rough) sawn. That means it is not dimensioned, planned, dressed, or seasoned. So the size given is the nominal and actual size.
Sawn lumber is less expensive than dimensioned lumber and give a more rustic look. I prefer it for this kind of project.
The materials you will need
Lumber
You can cut all of the pieces out of the following:
5 only lengths of 2×4 (50 x 100mm) lumber, 8ft (2400mm) long.
9 only lengths of 1×6 (25 x 150mm) lumber, 6ft (1800mm) long.
Fixings
60 only 3-1/2″ (90mm) galvanized flathead nails (or screws in place of)
100 only 3″ (75mm) galvanized flathead nails (or screws in place of)
4 only 3/8″ (10mm) x 3/1/2″ (110mm) long galvanized bolts with nuts and washers
6 only 6″ (150mm) long construction type or similar heavy type screws.
Liked the design but wish the dimensions were based on 1.5” lumber. Also ended up putting a cross piece on the chair back, about 6” down from top.
Pattern worked well & was very simple to follow. My only issue was, the only rough lumber available in my area (north Texas) is cedar/redwood, & I didn’t want to use that.
Because my 2x4s were actually closer to 1-3/4×3-1/2, it did throw off the measurements a bit. Had to move the lower back brace (F) about 1” forward to match the angle of (E) at the rear of the seat.
Also on pg 9 of the instructions, you have the 62-3/4” board correctly labeled M at the top, but L at the bottom.
I fell in love with the plan. Not just one but here is a secret. I’m 72 years old and haven’t had the chance to work on it. I choose the one I got because the instructions were easy to understand. I love building things. My daughter and I will be making that a weekend project. Do you do any of those DIY Patios? Thank you
