Adding a Product

This guide explains how to prepare and list a new product on KennysDIY. Please note: all products must be DIY-related and delivered as a downloadable PDF (no physical items).

1) Prepare (Before You Start)

A) Have these basics ready

  • SKU (optional), price (USD), and a suitable category. If you can’t find the right category, request one.
  • Your PDF file ready to upload.
  • Up to 5 square images (recommended: 600 × 600 pixels, JPG/PNG).

B) PDF file size (recommended)

For faster downloads, keep your PDF reasonably small where possible (a guide of 5 MB (5000 KB) or under is ideal). If you need to reduce file size, a free compressor is available here: freepdfcompressor.com

C) Prepare your product text

Title (maximum 50 characters)

  • Make it clear the product is a plan/guide/download, not a physical item.
  • This title appears on the shop/catalog page and at the top of the single product page.

Example: DIY Plans: 10ft × 10ft Pyramid Gazebo

Short Description (maximum 160 characters)

  • Include the PDF page count.
  • This appears on the single product page (as the excerpt/short description).

Example: Easy-to-build Adirondack chair. 28-page PDF guide with plans, photos, cutting list, and imperial + metric measurements.

Description (maximum 2000 characters)

  • Explain what’s included: page count, what the buyer will learn/build, and what’s inside (plans, diagrams, cutting list, materials list, step-by-step, etc.).
  • This appears on the single product page (main description).

D) Quick checklist

  • Your PDF is finished and opens correctly (no blank pages, no missing images).
  • File name is clear (example: Adirondack_Chair_Plan_v1.pdf).
  • Images are ready (JPG/PNG is fine).
  • You own the rights to all content (text, photos, drawings, diagrams).

2) Add a Product (Desktop)

Step-by-step
  1. Log in to your seller account.
  2. Go to Panel → Products → Add New Product.
  3. Fill in only the fields below (anything not mentioned can be left as-is).

Core fields

  • Title: enter your title (max 50 characters, including spaces).
  • Product Type: select Simple.
  • Tick both Downloadable and Virtual (important — this reveals “Downloadable Options”).
  • Category: choose the best match (request one if needed).
  • Price: enter the price (USD).
  • Brand: select a brand (request one if needed).

Upload your images

  • Cover image: click “Upload a product cover image” (large dashed box) and upload a 600 × 600 image.
  • Gallery images: click the + in the small dashed box to add up to 4 more images (also recommended: 600 × 600).

Descriptions

  • Short Description: enter your short description (max 160 characters).
  • Description: enter your main description (max 2000 characters).

Inventory (expand this section)

  • SKU: optional (recommended if you use SKUs).
  • All other fields in this section can be ignored.

Downloadable Options (expand this section)

  • Add File: click [Add File] and upload your PDF.
  • Download Limit: leave blank (this means unlimited).
  • Download Expiry: enter 30 (days).

Other Options (expand this section)

  • Optional: add a short note for the customer (if needed).
  • Enable product reviews: tick this box near the bottom of the section.

Finish: click [Save Product] at the bottom of the page.

3) Add a Product (Mobile)

Step-by-step
  1. Upload images first: add your cover image and up to 4 more gallery images (recommended: 600 × 600).
  2. Complete the fields below (anything not listed can be left as-is).

Fields to complete

  • Title: max 50 characters (including spaces).
  • Product Type: leave as Simple.
  • Downloadable and Virtual: tick both (important).
  • Category: choose the best match (request one if needed).
  • Price: enter price (USD).
  • Brand: select a brand (request one if needed).
  • Short Description: max 160 characters.
  • Description: max 2000 characters.

Inventory

  • SKU: optional.

Downloadable Options

  • Add File: tap [Add File] and upload your PDF.
  • Download Limit: leave blank (unlimited).
  • Download Expiry: enter 30.

Other Options

  • Optional: add a short note for the customer.
  • Enable product reviews: tick this option near the bottom.

Finish: tap [Save Product].

Important Note: Admin Approval

Your product (and any future edits) may not appear live immediately. Admin review/approval is required. You’ll be emailed when your product (or update) has been published.
